Conference recognizes outstanding members

LAKELAND — The Robert Raikes Volunteer Teacher Award for children’s teacher was given to Roy and Eileen Sloan of First United Methodist Church, Lake City. The award for adult teacher was given to Robert E. Johns of Perrine Peters United Methodist Church in Miami.

The Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry presented the 1999 Francis Asbury Award to Molly Springfield for her contribution to United Methodist ministries in higher education. The Rogers P. Fair Pre-Ministerial Award was given to Robin Lynne Bauer, a student at Florida Southern College from the Melbourne District. The Polly L. Cook Christian Consciousness Award was given to Joseph Eichorn, a student at the University of Central Florida (UCF). The Eulalie Ginn Outstanding Leadership Award was presented to Celeste Miller, a student at UCF, and Mary E. Akin, a student at Florida State University.

Also presented at the annual conference event was GeShawn Mance, a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Darlington, S.C., and 1999 graduate of Bethune-Cookman College. Mance is the 1999 Lina McCord Intern sponsored by the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry and the Black College Fund.
