Nancy Quintana RodriguezNancy Quintana Rodriguez, a
newly-ordained deacon at Coral Way Iglesia Metodista in Miami, died June 30 after a brief
illness. She is survived by her husband, Mariano.
Phenola Carroll
Phenola Carroll, wife of Bishop Edward Carroll Sr., died June 30 at her daughters
home in Gainesville at the age of 87.
Carroll was born in Frederick, Md., and served as an analyst for the War Department
during World War II, a caseworker for the Department of Welfare in New York City and a
social worker for the Baltimore Housing Department.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bishop Carroll of Gainesville, and a son,
daughter, brother and two grandsons.
Troy R. Brady
The Rev. Troy R. Brady, a retired Florida Conference elder, died June 25 at the age of
93, nine days before his 73rd wedding anniversary. He became an elder in the United
Brethren denomination in 1934 and retired from the ministry in 1971. He served churches in
Bradenton and Winter Park during his 15 years in the Florida Conference. Brady is survived
by his wife, Elizabeth, and two sons.
Hilda Fuster
Hilda Fuster, the widow of the first Methodist bishop of Cuba, died June 19. She was
born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Aug. 10, 1915 and was married to the Rev. Angel Fuster,
posthumously elected bishop of the Cuba Methodist Church after his death in an automobile
accident in 1966.
After her husbands death, Fuster moved to Lakeland and worked at the Florida
United Methodist Building from 1967 to 1990. She was a founding member of College Heights
United Methodist Churchs Hispanic congregation.
She is survived by her daughter, Hilda Fuster Chaviano; her son, Angelo Fuster; five
grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Mykiba Capers
Mykiba Capers, the daughter of the Rev. John Capers, died June 16 in Chattanooga, Tn.,
at the age of 23. Rev. Capers is a former pastor of Rogers Memorial United Methodist
Church in Bradenton.
Emma Gonzalez
Emma Gonzalez, part-time supply pastor of Miami Beach Hispanic Mission, died of a heart
attack April 22. Gonzalez served the mission as its pastor for 13 years.
James C. Charnley
The Rev. James C. Charnley died of cancer April 27 in Lakeland. Charnley served the
United Methodist Church for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1991 and pastored eight
Florida Conference churches. He is survived by his wife, Thelma.
