Burned
church needs volunteers
As part of United
Methodist Volunteers In Mission’s (UMVIM) ongoing commitment to
help rebuild churches burned by arson, teams are now being actively
recruited to work at the Friendship Baptist Church of Millen, Ga.
The 45-member, 118-year-old church was destroyed by fire July 31,
1999. It is just 10 miles from Gay’s Hill Baptist, another church
arson site, which was rebuilt with help from UMVIM volunteers in 1996
and 1997.
The church needs help with plumbing and has recruited a general
contractor who will work with volunteers on the 2,500-square-foot
site.
To schedule a team, contact the Rev. Morris Norwood of the National
Coalition for Burned Churches at 413-746-2902 or moe@map.com.
